Usamah Ansari Award Goes to "Margins: The Zine"

May 16, 2012

Congratulations to the Margins Zine Collective who were awarded the $500 Usamah Ansari Award earlier this month! Margins aims to highlight the stories and experiences of Indigenous women, women of colour and queer & trans women. Through showcasing poetry, writings and visual art, the zine collective's aim is to create a culture of self-reflection and self-expression in their communities. Stay tuned for details of the zine launch.

In memory of SFPIRG volunteer Usamah Ansari, this annual award supports creative social justice work including art, poetry, music and writing. Individuals or groups can apply. Priority given to communities of colour, refugees and youth. Application deadline is April 6th, the anniversary of Usamah's birthday.
